Essex Police search for suspected robber 'carrying axe'

Police say the suspect left with a "quantity of cash" after targeting the Post Office in Civic Square

Police have appealed for help to trace a suspected robber seen carrying an axe.

Officers were called to the Post Office in Civic Square, Tilbury, at about 15:00 BST on Monday after a man was seen leaving with cash.

The suspect was described as white, and of medium build. He was wearing a blue face covering, a black top with a white logo, grey joggers and a grey beanie.

A police spokesperson said the man was "reported to be carrying a small axe".
