Teenager fighting for life after Southend attack

A teenager is in a life-threatening condition after a serious assault in the early hours of the morning, police said.

Officers were called to St Mary's Court in Victoria Avenue in Southend, Essex, shortly before 04:00 BST on Monday.

Essex Police said three men and a woman had been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and were in custody.

Southend United's Roots Hall ground is behind the flats at St Mary's Court.

The victim, who is in her late teens, was taken to hospital where police said she was in a "life-threatening condition".

Increased police presence

Essex Police said people living nearby would see an increased police presence, external in the area while inquiries were carried out.

Det Insp Tracey Golding said: "We are working quickly to establish what has happened and appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything in the early hours of this morning or have any CCTV, video doorbell footage or dashcam footage to contact us."

People living along Victoria Avenue or the surrounding roads have been asked to check any footage they have of the area between 02:00 and 04:00 on Monday morning.
