Thousands travel to Royal International Air Tattoo

More than 80,000 tickets have been sold for the opening day of Fairford's Royal International Air Tattoo.

Some 300 planes are on show at the air base near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, for the two-day event

Chris Murray, director of operations, said the F22 Raptor would be the star of the show.

"It came in 2008 but because of the rain it was unable to display. This year it's going to be absolutely awesome," he added.

The two United States Air Force fighter jets were flown over from Alaska for the show and have been parked at RAF Lakenheath overnight.

The event is open to the public on 17 and 18 July.

People thinking of travelling to the show are being reminded that tickets are not being sold at the gate and must be bought online.

Traffic has been reported as heavy on the A419 and other roads leading to the base.
