Woman airlifted to hospital after Gloucestershire crash

The accident happened just before 1400 BST near Twyning

A woman has been airlifted to hospital after being thrown from a van in a crash on the A38 in Gloucestershire.

She was a passenger in the vehicle, which was in a head-on collision with a lorry close to junction 1 of the M50 near Twyning just before 1400 BST.

Great Western Ambulance Service said the woman suffered head, chest, leg and pelvic injuries described as critical.

She was treated by paramedics before being flown to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance.

The van driver was taken to hospital with chest injuries. The lorry driver was not hurt.

The A38 was closed between the Odessa Pub and Bradley Farm for about three hours.
