Stroud council plans to develop Brimscombe Port

A major redevelopment of Brimscombe Port in Gloucestershire could start by the end of the year.

The latest proposals are for 214 flats, 25 houses, a business park, shops, restaurants and a hotel.

Stroud District Council hopes to get outline planning permission by March and will then look for a developer.

Project manager Paul Coupe said that if the plans get the go-ahead the development could create more than 400 jobs.

Mr Coupe said the site had been fairly derelict in recent years.

He said: "The opportunity now is to develop it to return some of that historic water space back and at the same time deliver a mixed use development which will really put the heart and soul back into the centre of the village.

"It's a great opportunity and it will also become a key visitor destination."
