Cheltenham public gardens could get £100,000

More than £100,000 could be spent on work to improve public gardens in Cheltenham.

The borough council's Liberal Democrat-controlled cabinet approved the plans for Montpellier Gardens and Imperial Gardens at a meeting on Tuesday night.

It comes as councillors are proposing to save £2.8m over the next 12 months.

The plans, contained in the draft budget report, will be voted on at a full council meeting on Friday.

John Webster, the council's finance chief, said the authority wanted to increase the gardens' appeal.

He said: "There are competing demands on that space and we need to discuss with all of the interested parties exactly what they want out of it."
