Puzzlewood has become a popular filming location for films and TV

Filming for a new Hollywood movie is taking place in the Forest of Dean.

Scenes from the Warner Bros fantasy film Jack the Giant Killer are being shot at Puzzlewood near Coleford in Gloucestershire.

Stars taking part in the film, which is due for release in June 2012, include Ewan McGregor, Bill Nighy and Nicholas Hoult.

Puzzlewood manager Helen O'Kane said she was "really excited" the filming was taking place.

The adventure, directed by Bryan Singer, is a reworking of the classic story Jack and the Beanstalk.

It follows a farm boy who travels to the land of the giants to rescue a kidnapped princess.

Puzzlewood, which features unusual tree and rock formations, is closed to the public on Monday and Tuesday this week while the film company is on site.

The location has previously been used for filming of the BBC TV series Doctor Who and Merlin.

The same forest is said to have inspired JRR Tolkien to write The Hobbit.
