The chairman of Cheltenham's twinning committee has been presented with a medal of honour by the mayor of the town's German counterpart.
Former Cheltenham mayor Garth Barnes received the medal during a visit to Gottingen by over 110 residents.
The trip was to celebrate 60 years of friendship between the towns.
The medal acknowledges over 35 years of work towards the twinning link by Liberal Democrat borough councillor Mr Barnes, a council spokesman said.
Annette Wight, the authority's twinning officer, was also thanked for 25 years of service.
