Silence held at Prestbury's damaged war memorial

About 400 people gathered in Prestbury on Remembrance Sunday

A Gloucestershire village has seen a larger turnout than normal for its Remembrance Sunday parade and service.

Some 400 people gathered around Prestbury's damaged war memorial, which was attacked by vandals who smashed the stone plinth to pieces last month.

Chairman of the parish council, Malcolm Stennett, said it was an instance that had brought some good out of bad and "united local people".

The act of remembrance took place at the memorial at 10:30 GMT.

Meister Masonry, which is based nearby in Painswick, has offered to replace the plinth for free and hopes to complete the work by April next year.

Gloucestershire Police said the damage to the memorial happened late on 7 October and an investigation was ongoing.
