Increase in dangerous dogs seized in Gloucestershire

  • Published

More than 60 dangerous dogs have been seized by the police in Gloucestershire over the past two years, a Freedom of Information Request (FOI) has revealed.

In 2011 alone, kennelling costs for the dogs totalled more than £16,000.

The figures show a marked increase since 2008, when no dangerous dogs at all were picked up.

Inspector Steve McGrory, of Gloucestershire Police, says the rise in numbers seized is due to a more "proactive approach" from the force.

He said: "We have some specialist officers within our dog section now to actually deal with this sort of incident, and nationally we're much tighter now with dealing with dangerous dogs."
