The High Court has ruled that plans for an Asda store in Gloucestershire must go to a judicial review.

Co-op, which has a store in the town, had applied for the review into the local authority's decision to allow the build to go ahead in Cinderford.

This application was rejected but Co-op asked for it to be reconsidered. on Wednesday a High Court judge granted permission for the bid.

The review will be held on a date yet to be set.

Forest of Dean District Council approved planning permission for the new 4,645 sq m store on Steam Mills Road in Cinderford last January.

The authority's solicitor Marie Rosenthal said: "To get approval today all the Co-op needed to show was they had an arguable case. We will be robustly contesting their legal challenge at the full hearing."
