Gloucestershire students warned over road safety

Young drivers in Gloucestershire are to be educated about road safety at a special event on 9 May.

Gloucestershire Road Safety Partnership is holding the one-day seminar at Hartpury college for 1,600 students, as part of National Road Safety Week.

A quarter of drivers killed on the county's roads are under 24, and one in five new drivers has a crash within six months of passing their test.

The day will also feature the launch of Drive IQ, an online driving programme.

Drive IQ ambassador Sophie Morgan will be special guest at the launch.

Ms Morgan, who recently presented the BBC3 documentary Licence to Kill, was left paralysed from the waist down when she was speeding and her car flipped over.

She has spent the last decade in a wheelchair and now actively supports the road safety message for young drivers.

Alongside road safety experts and representatives of GFRS and Gloucestershire Police, partners at the event will include the Driving Standards Agency, IAM and Gloucestershire NHS Trust.
