Shaun James: Arrests made in 2002 murder inquiry

Detectives reopened the case last year believing Shaun James was kidnapped and murdered

Two men have been arrested in connection with the death of a builder in the Forest of Dean 12 years ago.

The pair, aged 63 and 51 and from Cinderford, are being held by Gloucestershire Police on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.

Shaun James, 32, is believed to have been kidnapped and run over in December 2002 shortly after leaving his local pub in the town.

Detectives reopened the case in December as a murder inquiry.

'Critical stage'

His body was found with multiple injuries in Steam Mills Road on 15 December 2002.

At the time his family claimed he was murdered but police closed the case after a 15-month investigation which failed to establish whether the death was accidental.

A cold case review led detectives to believe Mr James was kidnapped before he was murdered.

Det Ch Insp Steve Porter, said: "We're clearly at a critical stage in the investigation but it's crucial people still call us with any information they have about Shaun's death.

"The community response has been fantastic but we still need people to come forward and help us.

"Our neighbourhood engagement vehicle will be in Cinderford today if people want to go and speak to a local officer."
