A stream in Cheltenham is being tested following claims a dog died after being in the water.

A dog-walking service, based in Woodmancote, posted a warning online saying the dog had possibly ingested poison or algae at Benhall Park.

Another dog owner, Stuart Walby, told BBC Radio Gloucestershire one of his springer spaniels was violently ill after swimming in the water.

Cheltenham Borough Council said the Environment Agency had been informed.

Community ranger Janice Peacey said: "We have spoken to the Environment Agency who are responsible for the water course in the park and they are investigating. Our sympathies go out to the dog's owner."
