Three teenagers have been remanded in custody charged with the murder of a 16-year-old boy.
Ramarni Crosby died following an attack on Stratton Road, Gloucester, on Wednesday.
The defendants, aged 15, 16 and 17, have appeared before Cheltenham Magistrates' Court and cannot be named for legal reasons because of their age.
They were jointly charged with the murder of Ramarni and will next appear at Bristol Crown Court on Tuesday.
The boys spoke only to confirm their names, dates of birth and addresses during a brief hearing.
'Significant step'
Andrew Hedges, presiding justice, told the three defendants: "You are being remanded to youth detention accommodation".
Police divers are also searching the Gloucester and Sharpness canal in the Hempsted area as part of the inquiry.
Two women, aged 18 and 21, who had been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released while inquiries continue.
Det Ch Insp Mark Almond, from the Gloucestershire Police major crime investigation team, said: "These charges are a significant step in progress, but the investigation into Ramarni's tragic death does not stop here.
"This continues to be a very much active investigation and we're still working to establish the circumstances around what took place.
"Any piece of information, no matter how small you feel it may be, could be very important.
"If you feel you can't talk to police, you can give information anonymously to Crimestoppers instead."
