Community champions have joined King Charles III in celebrating his 75th birthday.

Guests included community stalwarts nominated by friends and family who are also turning 75 this year, to representatives from organisations marking the same milestone.

He was presented with a three-tier cake at an event at Highgrove House in Gloucestershire.

Edna Henry, 92, from Cardiff said she was "honoured" to be there.

Ms Henry, a former hospital worker, was invited as one of the people who had a portrait commissioned by the King, whose birthday is on Tuesday, to honour the accomplishments of the Windrush generation.

She said: "I didn't expect this, its really good to know the hard work I've done was recognised and I really appreciate it."

People attending the party included Gloucestershire residents who were nominated by friends, family and neighbours for their community work, with the final guestlist chosen by ballot.

Among the famous faces at the event were celebrity chef Raymond Blanc, The Repair Shop host Jay Blades and singer Leee John from the 1980s group Imagination.

Mr Blades, who bonded with the King over a shared interest in heritage and crafts in an episode of the BBC's The Repair Shop, is an ambassador for The King's Foundation.

He said: "He's the new King but he's also about community, he's always been about community. He's always been forward-thinking about what we're doing about the environment but also including community members."

Mr Blanc said the King was a "trailblazer, a man who really created change" and said he thought the King's global impact had been "underestimated".

A local choir sang Happy Birthday at the end of the cream tea party, with an original music composition by teenager Bill Goulding also played.

The 14-year-old gardening enthusiast was invited to play the piano after he visited Highgrove gardens and wrote a letter saying how beautiful they are.

He said: "It's a wonderful opportunity to play for the King."

Constantine Innemée, Highgrove director at The King's Foundation, said it was a "big day" for the team and the guests.

He said: "Its our first event as the King's Foundation but even bigger day for our guests who are here to celebrate their 75th birthday.

"Today is about celebrating with the local community; people who have done great work and who also happen to be celebrating their special birthday this year or celebrating with organising or anniversaries that are being marked in that same 75th year."
