A large bridge has now been installed at a city centre development after a special police escort.

The 44-tonne structure, which is nearly 19 metres (62ft) long, was taken by lorry to the Forum development on Market Parade, Gloucester.

Police escorted the abnormal load on its journey from St Albans Road in Linden, along Bristol Road and the A430.

Operators used a crane to lift it into place on Thursday evening.

The bridge installation, which is part of The Forum, marks 'a major milestone' in the regeneration of Gloucester.

The £107m project involves a boutique hotel, rooftop bar, a gym and a new multi-storey car park to the city centre.

Construction work on the campus, which is part of efforts to revitalise King's Quarter, could bring up to 1,500 jobs.

A spokesperson from The Forum said: "The Forum is a sustainable development including office and workspace...in the heart of the city.

"The bridge weighs 44,000 kg and measures 18.5m length."

The bridge now connects the two Forum buildings.
