Robert Hitchins Ltd has asked for permission to build in Standish

A decision on plans to build more than 600 homes, a primary school and create playing fields will be made 'later in the year.'

Robert Hitchins Limited has submitted plans to Stroud District Council to develop the land in Standish, Gloucestershire.

If approved, at least 30% of the properties would be affordable housing.

Stroud District Council said it was taking guidance as there were some issues with the application.

The application is proposing to develop 78.2 acres (31.6 hectares) with 635 homes and a new primary school.

Around 20 acres of public open space on the site could also include allotments, community orchards, parks and recreation grounds, play space, natural green areas and playing pitches.

A Stroud District Council spokesperson said: "The draft Local Plan identifies this site as a sustainable urban extension to Stonehouse at Great Oldbury for mixed-use development and we are currently considering the merits of the outline application for part of the site that has been submitted to us.

"The application has various issues including the indicative layout, ecology and highway matters which are still being considered with input from our consultees and partners.

"A decision is expected later in the year."
