A key route off the A417 will be closed this weekend for roadworks.

National Highways said a small section of the A436 and the top of Leckhampton Hill, near the Air Balloon roundabout in Gloucestershire, would be shut.

The works are part of the £460m 'Missing Link' project, which will connect traffic from the M4 to the M5 and aims to fix an accident blackspot.

The closures will be in place from 21:00 GMT until 05:00 on Monday and a diversion route will be in place.

National Highways said the A436 would not be accessible from the Air Balloon roundabout during this time.

The A417 will remain open in both directions during the period, and Crickley Hill Country Park and the National Star College will be open for business as usual.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "This work will provide easy access for site vehicles and heavy goods vehicles making deliveries to our new site offices and compound.

"It is being carefully located to help keep traffic moving and congestion to a minimum during the construction phase of the project."

A diversion route will be in place via the A46, A40, A435, A436.
