Witnesses were "terrified" when a bus caught fire on a busy road.

It happened on the A417 in Gloucestershire, just before 16:00 GMT on Thursday.

Jo Welch, who witnessed the fire while she was driving home from Cheltenham, said she was "terrified the bus was going to blow up".

Nobody was injured in the blaze, which was attended by police and two fire engines.

Ms Welch added: "I could see plumes of black smoke and all of the flames.

"I didn't know what it was until we got a bit closer and realised it was the back of a bus. The flames were huge.

"As we were driving past, the whole back end of the bus dropped off and nearly hit the car."

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue said they were called at 15:46 GMT to reports of a coach on fire on the A417 between the Air Balloon and Cowley roundabouts.

"Two fire engines, from Cirencester and Cheltenham East, attended the scene and used two hose reels and two breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire," they said.
