Some of the 170 buildings lining a "tired" high street are set to be "brought back to life".

Artist Tash Frootko will be turning her hand to sprucing up Tredworth's High Street after transforming other areas of Gloucester.

Ms Frootko and a team of fellow artists will pick up their paintbrushes to inject colour into the street later this month.

She described the project as "next level".

Known for her work transforming Gloucester's shabby streets into a colourful patchwork of houses, Ms Frootko previously brightened up Hopewell Street.

Ms Frootko said: "Hopewell Street was 69 buildings, we've got 170 buildings [on High Street, Tredworth].

"It doesn't necessarily mean we're going to be painting all of them but we're going to try and get permissions for a lot of them and a lot of permissions are already in place."

Ms Frootko said the appearance of High Street, Tredworth currently "doesn't reflect the community"

Ms Frootko said she feels like "everyone knows" the High Street, which is "her favourite part of the city by far".

She described it as a "plethora of wonderful architecture".

"It's a dream for a creative [person], and one of the main things we're gong to be doing is putting a whole series of mural art into it to really try and reflect the wonderful multicultural and diversity of this area and the last 100 years," Ms Frootko added.

"The area is absolutely fascinating, it's my opportunity to create this outdoor art gallery to reflect the community and reflect what's here."

Shops, takeaways and homes are among the buildings set to be given a new lease of life in Tredworth.

Ms Frootko has set a challenge for seven schools in the Barton and Tredworth area to create a mural that will grace one of the walls on the street.

"The community there is absolutely brilliant, "Ms Frootko said.

"I absolutely love my time in Barton and Tredworth, that's why I'm doing all my projects there. I've been embraced by the community.

"One thing that does need to happen is the scenery needs to be made more vibrant. It looks a bit out of date, shabby and tired.

"It doesn't reflect the community so I'm here to shine a light and bring the backdrop of this wonderful community back to life."
