The ballroom of a Grade I-listed building has reopened following essential maintenance work.

The Pittville Pump Room in Cheltenham closed in October after checks found it needed urgent remedial work.

That work included repairs to the ornate plasterwork in the main hall and apse area.

A Cheltenham Trust spokesperson, who run the site, said repairs "were also carried out on the dome to reduce the risk of water ingress".

Some cornices in the building were also repaired by specialist conservation contractors.

It was hoped the ballroom would reopen before Christmas, but opened on Tuesday just in time to welcome race-goers to this year's Cheltenham Festival.
