A dog with "horrific" injuries has been found dead in a tub in a stream.

The animal, believed to be a male Dutch Shepherd, was discovered in Eckington Road, near Tewkesbury in Gloucestershire, on 17 February.

The RSPCA said he had suffered head and leg wounds and was found by a member of the public.

The charity said the un-microchipped dog may have been seen running around the village as a stray in the past.

"We are concerned about the unusual circumstances surrounding the discovery of this poor dog. The dog suffered horrific injuries," RSPCA inspector Richard Carr said.

The charity has put out a call for anyone with information which could help its investigation to come forward.
