Cheltenham Science Festival line up revealed

Traitors star Andrew Jenkins, physicist Brian Cox and astronaut Tim Peake are among the speakers taking part in this years Cheltenham Science Festival.

Comedian Dara Ó Briain, lexicographer Susie Dent and chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall are also in the line-up.

The festival will look at science's role in everything from eating to ageing and deception to elections.

Dr Marieke Navin, festival head, said it will be exploring everything "from the everyday to the out of this world".

More than 200 scientists, writers, explorers, comedians, media personalities and a Buddhist monk are to take part in the six day event in Cheltenham.

Dr Navin, the festival's head of programming, described the festival as an "unmissable event" that will inspire "the next generation of thinkers and dreamers".

Chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall will reveal the health benefits of adding 30 more vegetables to your weekly diet.

While aerospace engineer and judge of Netflix's Baking Impossible, Andrew Smyth, will explore the connections between everyday bakes and the extraordinary engineering that helps keep astronauts alive.

The Traitors star Andrew Jenkins, game theorist and mathematician Marcus Du Sautoy and kidnap negotiator Scott Walker will delve into how science plays a role in deceit.

And Buddhist monk Gelong Thubten and neuroscientist Ash Ranpura will explore what happens to the brain when we practice meditation and mindfulness.

Dr Navin, said the festival will be offering "fascinating insights into how we can understand our changing world" while "highlighting both the wonder of the everyday".

The Cheltenham Science Festival will run from 4 to 9 June.
