Ryde Pier set for long-term vehicle ban
- Published
Ryde Pier on the Isle of Wight will be closed to vehicles for the foreseeable future after the structure failed a routine maintenance check.
The Wightlink terminal is taking foot passengers on its Portsmouth route but vehicles were banned on Wednesday.
The operator had hoped to announce quickly when the pier could reopen but it is still waiting for a schedule of the repair work to be drawn up.
Wightlink has advised customers to allow more time to make their sailings.
Season ticket holders for the car park will be allowed to park at Fishbourne and use its ferry service to Portsmouth.
The council has also agreed to let these permit holders park in Quay Street and St Thomas' Street council car parks in Ryde until 16 August.
