Fans of Aldershot Town Football Club have shown "phenomenal interest" in ticket sales after the draw against Manchester United in the Carling Cup.

The League Two side will meet the current leaders of the Premier League at home during the week of 24 October.

The Shots are the lowest ranked of 16 teams in the Cup's fourth round.

The club said it could not begin selling tickets until arrangements had been finalised but said season ticket holders would be first in line.

Aldershot beat League One side Rochdale 2-1 to make the final 16.

An Aldershot Town Football Club spokesman said fans who still had their ticket from the Rochdale game would also be given the "first opportunity" to buy a ticket for the match at the EBB Stadium.

"Within five minutes of the draw taking place the club received a phenomenal interest through telephone calls and website traffic," he said.

"We fully understand the excitement for supporters to secure their tickets but until arrangements have been finalised and the tickets printed we cannot begin selling them."

Discussions with Manchester United and a number of other parties such as the police, are due to take place later.

United's visit will rekindle memories of their tie in 1970 when more than 18,000 watched the likes of Best, Charlton and Law come from behind to win 3-1.
