Portsmouth gets £31m for new M275 junction and new bridge

Portsmouth is to get more than £30m of funding from the government for two regeneration projects.
About £20m was granted for a new M275 junction in Tipner. New homes, shops and businesses are also planned there once the project is complete.
About £11m was also confirmed to replace an old railway bridge at Northern Road, Cosham.
Portsmouth City Council said construction work on both schemes was likely to start next year.
'Waterfront area'
The funding was announced by Chancellor George Osborne in his Autumn Statement on Tuesday.
Portsmouth City Council's regeneration cabinet member Mike Hancock said the projects would help boost the city's economy.
"This is fantastic news," he said.
"We want Tipner to be a wonderful waterfront area, with new offices, homes and green space."
Plans for the Tipner motorway junction include slip roads joining a new roundabout underneath the motorway at Tipner Lane.
Also included is a bus and taxi lane alongside the southbound slow lane of the M275, between the new roundabout on Tipner Lane and Rudmore Roundabout.
A spokesman said the council would have to contribute £10m or more for the Tipner scheme and £1m for the bridge scheme, either from its own funds or from partner organisations.
He added the council would now start work on appointing a contractor and finalising details of the schemes.
