Basingstoke Town Football Club plans to relocate to a new £10m stadium, creating 300 jobs.

The 5,000-capacity ground west of the Hilton Basingstoke hotel could then meet League one standards.

The scheme would be funded by replacing the existing Camrose stadium with 90,000 sq ft (27,432 sq m) of retail development.

Club chairman Rafi Razzak said the future was exciting "not just for the club but for the whole town".

The ageing Camrose threatened to become "a major obstacle to realising the club's dreams", he added.

The Camrose has been the Hampshire club's home since 1946.
