Hampshire 20mph speed limits to be trialled
- Published
Speed limits of 20mph are to be tested on selected streets in Hampshire.
A pilot scheme will cover parts of Basingstoke, Winchester, Hart, Whitchurch, Hythe, Havant, Farnborough, Medstead, Fareham and Andover.
Hampshire County Council said the £250,000 trial could "improve the quality of life for people in residential areas".
It said the limits should be "self enforcing" with police unlikely to treat enforcement as a priority.
Vehicle speeds will be monitored before and after the introduction of the limits to assess their impact.
The limits are due to come in to force in spring 2012 following consultations with residents in each area.
