Hundreds of Portsmouth football fans have dressed up as Santa to raise money for charity.

About 1,700 Father Christmas outfits were sold for Portsmouth Football Club's match at Fratton Park against Lancashire's Preston North End.

The Hampshire club's charity, Pompey in the Community, provided 1,898 blue suits to match the club's colours and to mark the year it was established.

The event, dubbed "Santa Saturday", is expected to raise about £1,000.

It also featured snow machines in the stadium car park and 40 simultaneous pass the parcels in the stadium at half time.

Pompey in the Community funds projects for children in Portsmouth, such as reading and after school clubs.
