A Hampshire landmark has been cordoned off while possible damage to it is investigated.

A pre-cleaning inspection of the 15th Century Buttercross on Winchester High Street revealed one of the finials on the structure could be loose.

A Winchester City Council spokesperson said the finial would be removed for repair "as a matter of urgency".

He said the cause of the damage to the monument was not yet known but pigeons could have dislodged the stonework.
