Council removes spoof "twinned with Downton Abbey" signs

Highclere Castle is now a tourist attraction as the film location for Downton Abbey

Spoof road signs claiming Highclere Village is twinned with the fictional Downton Abbey have been removed by Hampshire County Council.

The popular ITV drama is filmed at Highclere Castle, home to Lady and Lord Carnarvon, and is now an international tourist attraction.

Councillor Sean Woodward, said unauthorised signs could be distracting to motorists.

Official brown signs are in place to direct visitors to Highclere Castle.
