Isle of Wight railway line services resume after storms

More than 750 tonnes of ballast have replenished tracks on the Isle of Wight

Railway services on the Isle of Wight have resumed after two weeks of engineering work to repair damage caused by the storms before Christmas.

Engineers had been dealing with problems caused by flooding at more than 20 locations.

More than 750 tonnes of ballast were brought over to the island by ferry to help repair damage to tracks.

South West Trains, the Island Line's operator, say repairs have been completed a week earlier than planned.

Andy Naylor, area manager for the line, said: "Repairs have gone well and we've taken the opportunity to strengthen some areas to protect the track against future bad weather."

The Island Line runs from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin.
