The airline will fly 12 times a week to the Bavarian capital, Munich.

Airline BMI Regional has announced it will begin flying from Southampton Airport from April.

The airline is launching a 12-times-a-week service to Munich in Germany.

BMI is the eighth carrier to offer scheduled flights from Southampton - last month KLM launched a service to Amsterdam and, in October, Volotea announced a new service to Majorca.

The flights will operate twice daily from Monday to Friday and once a day at weekends starting on 15 April.

Airport managing director Dave Lees said: "Scheduled air services to Munich have been requested by many businesses, so this is great news.

"There is also substantial demand from the German market for cruises leaving the Port of Southampton, so these air links will be popular."
