Approval has been granted for a new £10m college in Portsmouth.
University Technical College (UTC) Portsmouth will be built in the grounds of Trafalgar School in Hilsea and open in September 2017.
The institution is a joint venture led by the University of Portsmouth, the Royal Navy, Salterns Academy Trust and Portsmouth City Council.
There are currently 39 UTCs with another 16 planned by the end of the year.
UTC Portsmouth will specialise in electrical and mechanical engineering and advanced manufacturing, offering GSCEs, Level 3 engineering diplomas and A-levels.
University of Portsmouth pro vice-chancellor Prof Paul Hayes said: "The school will help meet the education and training needs of the next generation of engineers from across the south coast.
"Working with local employers, the school will focus on students learning through projects that are directly relevant to the needs of industry."
Applications for admissions will open in September for year 10 and 12 students.
