A large fire at a music festival car park has caused a huge plume of smoke over the site.

A large fire has damaged dozens of parked cars at a music festival in Hampshire.

The blaze sent a plume of black smoke over the west car park at the Boomtown Fair at Matterley Bowl, near Winchester, Hampshire.

A number of festival-goers said on social media the fire had caused "small explosions".

A campsite adjacent to the car park was evacuated but there were no reports of anyone being hurt.

Event security initially said a fire in six vehicles had been put out but the ambulance service later said an estimated 80 vehicles had been destroyed in the blaze.

About 50,000 people are expected to attend the four-day festival which began on Thursday.
