A serial flytipper has been jailed for 30 weeks after admitting a string of waste offences.

Marcus Bairstow, 41, pleaded guilty at a Southampton Crown Court hearing to depositing waste without a licence and contravening an environmental permit, as well as breaching an ASBO.

He burned waste on a plot near Eastleigh and illegally dumped waste on farmland near Rownhams.

Bairstow was jailed in 2011 after being exposed by the BBC's Rogue Traders.

The television programme tracked and secretly filmed Bairstow, of Chelveston Crescent, Southampton, as he collected waste in the city and dumped it in the countryside.

The Environment Agency (EA) said he subsequently rented a plot of land at Stoneham Lane, Eastleigh, in May 2015, where fires began in accumulated waste.

In one instance, fire spread to the building of a neighbouring business.

The Environment Agency said Bairstow 'wilfully ignored' waste regulations

The agency said Bairstow had also illegally dumped waste he collected from a developer on farmland near Rownhams.

A van belonging to him was also seen flytipping waste in the car park of the Talking Heads pub in Portswood.

The EA's Nigel Oliver said: "Bairstow was clearly aware of his obligations and responsibilities in the handling and treatment of waste but yet again wilfully ignored them, putting the local environment at repeated risk."
