A double decker bus has been turned into a mobile homeless shelter for people on the Isle of Wight.

Charity worker Kevin Newton has created Bus Shelter to help rough sleepers on the island.

The Bus Shelter will provide shelter for up to 16 people at a time and is now open for business.

Mr Newton was inspired to create the shelter after the Isle of Wight night shelter was scrapped last year.

He said: "I'm so excited to be finally up and running. I'm extremely keen to be working with multi agencies to relieve homelessness on the island and to hopefully make a difference to the island's rough sleepers."

The bus has 14 sleeping pods and two beds and costs will be minimal with local business helping to fund food and gas.

Mr Newton added: "Homeless people are sleeping in summer tents of just in sleeping bags at the back of buildings and I thought anything would be better than that. I want to make a difference to these people's lives."
