Residents have been warned they may experience low pressure and discolouration

Water supplies in parts of Southampton have been lost following a burst main.

Southern Water said about 6,000 homes in the SO16 and SO17 areas were cut off when the main burst in Stoneham Lane in the early hours.

Engineers worked overnight and most supplies "should now be returning".

Residents have also been warned they may experience low pressure and discolouration, which was "completely normal" in these cases of disruption, Southern Water added.

The firm said it was providing bottled water to a "small number" of homes where the supply was expected to be affected for a slightly longer period.

Stoneham Lane will remain closed for up to a week while the water main is repaired near the junction with Channels Farm Road.
