A much-loved local radio presenter has hosted his final show for the BBC after 34 years with the broadcaster.

Paul Miller's late-night phone-in show has been a feature of local radio in the south of England since 2000.

In March, he announced to listeners that it felt the "right time" to leave.

The final show was broadcast on BBC Radio Solent, Berkshire, Kent, Oxford, Sussex and Surrey on Thursday and can be heard throughout October on BBC Sounds.

At the end of the programme, he signed off with his trademark "bysie-bye".

"You've been the most adorable people. I've loved every minute.

"Thank you for everything, take care of yourselves and just remember, the bottom line for everything I've believed in for this programme is just be nice to people, that's all you've got to do," he told the listeners.

Paul Miller said he joined the BBC for two weeks and ended up staying 34 years

Announcing his departure in March he said: "Things change, nothing lasts forever.

"So after considerable thought and considerable discussions, I have decided that now feels the right time for me to clear out my drawers and get knotted.

"It's just amazing that you've kept me going for 23 years with such brilliant content. I have taken those special things and shared them with everybody else.

"I came here for two weeks and that was nearly 34 years ago. It's been 34 amazing years."

'Exceptional broadcaster'

He previously described the Late Show as the best show on the radio.

"Late night radio is very special, and allows you to develop a relationship with the listener like no other," he said.

A BBC spokesperson said: "Paul is an exceptional broadcaster who has entertained the audience for 23 years on The Late Show.

"He's a truly professional broadcaster who's always puts the listener at the heart of his programmes.

"We will miss his late-night company and wish him every success in the future."
