Opening ceremony for £10.6m Hampshire Hospitals Heart Centre

A £10.6m state-of-the-art cardiac facility will be officially opened in Hampshire later.
The Hampshire Hospitals Heart Centre in Basingstoke will enable thousands of cardiology procedures to be carried out every year.
Based at the Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, it includes two new cardiac catheterisation labs - known as cath labs.
These include integrated X-ray, cardiac monitoring and other technologies.
The centre has a dedicated ambulance entrance so that the most critically unwell patients can be brought directly to a cath lab for immediate life-saving treatment. Construction of the unit took one year and the design incorporates infection control for the Covid-19 era.
The new unit opened in October 2022 but cardiac procedures have been delivered within the hospital for more than 20 years.
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust chief executive Alex Whitfield said: "This state-of-the-art facility allows us to meet current and future demand in providing efficient and sustainable health services for our growing population."
The official opening ceremony takes place on Wednesday afternoon.
