Isle of Wight Island Line reopens after Storm Ciarán repairs
- Published
Trains are back in service on a pier following damage caused by heavy rain and Storm Ciarán.
The Island Line between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde St Johns Road was forced to close on 2 November.
Thanking travellers for their "patience over recent weeks", South Western Railway said the full service was back up and running.
Passengers were taken by minibus along the pier to connect with ferries while repairs were carried out.
The line on the pier is set to close again for the remaining work to change wood sleepers on the track to composite.
Network Rail has yet to announce a date for the work which is expected to take several months.
Trains stopped for nearly nine months between October and July while the 143-year-old pier it runs along was strengthened and track was replaced.
The rail line had a £26m upgrade in 2021 which saw Island Line's old 1938 tube trains replaced by refurbished London Underground District Line trains, and its tracks and platforms upgraded.
