A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a 22-year-old.
Detectives were called to Keyes Road in Gosport at 02:32 GMT on Friday morning, after reports that a man had been seriously assaulted.
Police said he died of his injuries and his family had been informed.
A 19 year-old man from Gosport was arrested on suspicion of murder and police are appealing for information.
A red Vauxhall Corsa, which was involved in a crash at the scene in Bridgemary, is also being linked to the investigation, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary said.
Det Ch Insp Matt Gillooly said they were working to establish how many people were involved in assaulting the man.
"We recognise that this is a shocking and devastating incident for the man's family and those living in the area," he said.
The force is appealing for anyone who might have relevant dashcam or doorbell footage to contact them.
"If you saw the red Vauxhall Corsa in the Fareham and Gosport area early this morning we also want to hear from you," Mr Gillooly added.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be in the Nobes Avenue and Keyes Road area throughout the coming days.
