A queue of tankers have lined up along a New Forest road to remove wastewater from a burst sewer so it can be fixed.

Southern Water has deployed the tankers to pump out the sewage from the burst at Ashurst Bridge Road in Totton.

The tankers have been making round trips since Tuesday, taking sewage from the burst to be treated at a wastewater treatment works.

Apologising for any disruption caused by the "tankering", the water firm said there was no impact on supplies.

Traffic cones have been places along the route from the junction with Fletchwood Lane to keep the road clear for the tankers to manoeuvre.

A Southern Water spokesman said: "We are working as quickly as we possibly can.

"Barring any unforeseen problems, we expect the repair work to be finished by the end of today."
