Two teenagers on a moped have been seriously injured in a crash after allegedly failing to stop for police.
A white Honda moped was seen by officers at 23:50 GMT on Monday in Portsmouth, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Police said.
The vehicle travelled from Somers Road and was in collision with a silver BMW at the junction of Richmond Road and Clarendon Road.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating.
A police spokesman said the moped, which was carrying a rider and passenger, "failed to stop" for the marked police car after officers spotted one of the riders was not wearing a crash helmet.
The riders were seen on Somers Road and travelled along Margate Road, Victoria Road North and Victoria Road South.
'Thoughts with boys'
The boys, one from Portsmouth and the other from Southsea, "suffered serious and life-threatening injuries", the spokesman said, adding they were both being treated in hospital.
Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage from along the route to get in touch.
No arrests have been made.
The IOPC confirmed it was investigating after being contacted by the force.
An IOPC spokesman said: "Our thoughts are with the boys and their families and all those who have been affected by this incident.
"Our investigation is at an early stage and no further information is available at this time."
