Portsmouth's Eastern Road: Second sewer leak delays road repairs
- Published
Disruption to a major commuter route in Portsmouth is set to continue after a second sewer leak was discovered as another was being repaired.
Southern Water said a further leak was found while it was fixing a burst sewer pipe on Eastern Road on Saturday.
It said the southbound carriageway will now remain shut until Wednesday as repairs were needed to "protect the environment and services".
Motorists have faced disruption on the road on several occasions recently.
Southern Water said its engineers "immediately started further work on excavating the pipe to confirm the location of the leak and repair it" once it was identified.
"We're aware there have been repeated issues on this section of pipework and a longer term solution will be identified in the new year to further protect the environment and avoid more disruption in future," it added.
The southbound carriageway of Eastern Road was initially closed from its junction with Farlington Roundabout to Anchorage Road when the emergency repairs began on Thursday.
