A horse was "safely back in his stable for Christmas" after becoming stuck in mud, a fire service said.

Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service said it "worked hard in difficult conditions" to save Lincoln the horse when he was trapped in a field in Hordle, Hampshire, on Friday.

Animal rescue teams used specialist equipment to remove him from the mud.

He was then moved to a nearby field where he was checked over by a vet, the fire service added.

The operation to rescue the 19-year-old, which involved crews from from Lyndhurst, Lymington, Winchester and Eastleigh, took three-and-a-half hours.
