A murder investigation has begun after a woman's body was discovered.

Police were called at 11:30 GMT on Thursday to a report that the body of a 37-year-old woman had been located inside a house in Nevinson Way, Waterlooville, Hampshire.

A 36-year-old man was treated for arm injuries and subsequently arrested on suspicion of murder.

Hampshire Constabulary said an investigation was ongoing to establish what happened.

A statement said the death was currently being treated as suspicious and the woman's family had been informed.

Ch Insp Habib Rahman said: "This is a concerning incident for the local community, but we do not believe there is any risk to the public. Specialist officers will remain at the scene while we establish what happened.

"The Neighbourhood Policing Team will be carrying out regular patrols in the area and anyone with questions or concerns can speak to these uniformed officers".
