A former teacher who abused a pupil on school grounds more than a decade ago has been jailed for three years.

Nicholas Brooks, 71, from Park Gate in Fareham, taught at Meoncross School in Stubbington, Hampshire.

Hampshire Constabulary said the offences involved one teenage girl and took place on school premises, in Brooks' car and at his home.

He was found guilty of sexual activity with a child following a trial at Southampton Crown Court.

The victim said she felt "trapped" by Brooks after being abused between 2008 and 2011. She reported him to police in 2020.

Det Con Lucy Allan said: "This is a shocking and prolonged case of sexual abuse against a child, where the perpetrator was a teacher, someone who has abused their position of trust.

"The bravery shown by the victim in this case has been outstanding. I want to commend her for having the courage to talk to police about what happened and help bring Brooks to justice."

Brooks was jailed after being found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child and two counts of abusing a position of trust to cause or incite sexual activity with a girl.

He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register.
