The death of a man outside a Southampton church is no longer being investigated as a murder.

Leszek Migdal, 52, was found close to Freemantle United Reformed Church on Shirley Road, on 19 August.

Hampshire Constabulary launched a murder inquiry in September, after initially treating his death as "unexplained" but not suspicious.

A 46-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder will face no further action, the force said.

Mr Migdal, who was also known as Peter, was discovered with injuries shortly after midday.

Paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service asked police to attend over concerns for his welfare and he was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

New information brought to the attention of officers in September prompted a murder investigation.

But the force said it had since discounted this after reviewing the evidence.

Det Supt David West, who is leading the investigation, said the team had worked "tirelessly" to determine Mr Migdal's final moments and provide his family with the answers about what had happened to him.

He added: "Our thoughts remain with Peter's family at this very difficult time."

In a tribute, his sister previously described his death as "a painful mystery".

A file will be prepared for the Coroner, with officers continuing their enquiries to determine the circumstances of his death.
